Catamounts Open SoCon Play at Wofford Thursday

First of two road games to open conference play

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball begins Southern Conference play Thursday traveling to Wofford for a 6 p.m. tip-off.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Wofford meet for the 57th time on Thursday. The Catamounts hold a 35-21 advantage over the Terriers. WCU halted a five-game losing streak to Wofford defeating the Terriers 65-54 at home on Jan. 23, 2021. Western Carolina is 14-10 at Wofford with the last victory in Spartanburg coming on Feb. 8, 2018, with a 68-62 win. In the last 10 matchups, Wofford holds a 7-3 mark over Western Carolina. The two teams first met on Nov. 25, 1995, with WCU taking an 80-65 win.
  • The Catamounts' six wins on the season tie the most victories the team had in the 2020-21 campaign.
  • The 79 points scored by the Catamounts, against Montreat, are a season-best for WCU. It's the fifth time this season the team has scored 70 or more points in a game.
  • Freshman Bailey Trumm became the third Catamount to hit three or more three-pointers in a game this season with her career-high five against Montreat - it was the most by a WCU player this season. She joins teammates Vanessa Oduah and Zanoria Cruz who had three each in earlier contests. 
  • Nadia Marshall leads the Catamounts averaging 11.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest.
  • The Catamounts have won two of its last three games.
  • Catamount women's basketball against Southern Wesleyan will be rescheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17   
 
 AN INSIDE LOOK AT WOFFORD:
  • Wofford has lost two of its last five games.
  • Three of Wofford's last four games has been at home.
  • The Terriers are 4-3 at home this season.
  • Wofford will only have one conference game this season as its contest with UNCG, on Saturday Jan. 8, has been postponed.
  • Jackie Carmen leads the Terriers averaging 11.9 points per game.
