Catamounts Win Three Championships at NCCU Invite

A singles and two doubles championships claimed by Catamounts

DURHAM, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis closed out play in the NCCU Invitational Sunday with a singles championship and a pair of doubles championships.

Freshman Leilany Ipunesso, from New Caledonia, won the B Draw championship overcoming being down after set one. She defeated Davidson's Kavya Patel 4-6, 6-0, 10-7 for the championship trophy.

Success in a pair of doubles draws saw even more Catamount newcomers make waves.

In the A Draw championship, Jade Groen and Andrea Redondo Gutierrez defeated East Carolina's Kim Auserwald and Anne Lou Champion 6-4 for the title. In the B Draw championship, Chloe Schwarz and Dasha Osadova knocked off Shaw's Anja Antonijevic and Seval Ozseker 6-2.

Western Carolina returns to action this Thursday, Oct. 13, at the ITA East Regional hosted by Wake Forest.
