CHARLESTON, S.C. – Freshman Isabella DeMarco scored the first hat trick of her Catamount career as she helped pace Western Carolina women's soccer to a key 6-1 Southern Conference victory at The Citadel Tuesday at WLI Field.

Turning Point:
  • Western Carolina scored two goals in the first half to build an early 2-0 lead and then exploded for four goals in the second.

Individual Leaders:
  • Isabella DeMarco scored three of the Catamounts' six goals and added an assist.
  • Kennedy Capps scored Western Carolina's second goal of the contest.
  • Abbie Lainhart scored WCU's third goal in the contest.
  • Milla Syska scored the final goal of the contest. She also added an assist.
  • Maggie Lloyd had two assists.
  • Kirsten Hahn and Shannon Greenwood each provided an assist.
  • Redshirt freshman Eden Reece got the start in goal. She had four saves and gave up one goal. Reece improves to 2-1 on the season.
 Inside the Box Score
  • DeMarco got the scoring started for the Catamounts just under 20 minutes into the match. She took a shot from just outside of the box on the mid-left side sending it over the head of the Bulldog goalie high into the left center of the goal.
  • Capps got into the action at 34:40. She took a pass from Shannon Greenwood from the left side sending it to Capps at the middle of the field about 20-yards out. She launched it to the left side just inside the post past the diving Citadel goalie.
  • The Citadel avoided the shutout scoring just 11 minutes into the second half.
  • After giving up a goal to The Citadel at 56:41, the Catamounts got it right back off a goal by Abbie Lainhart. Isabella took the ball from a throw-in on the mid-right side and passed it to Lainhart just to the left of the post who kicked it past the Citadel goalie just inside the net.
  • Isabella DeMarco scored her second goal of the match taking a long pass from Milla Syksa, just before midfield, and using her lightning speed to take it on the Catamounts attacking end. She dribbled past a Bulldog defender, as the Citadel goalie was pulled out of the goal, and kicked it past her into the goal.
  • A hat-trick for Isabella DeMarco was locked in when goalkeeper Reece booted the ball to the Catamounts attacking side of the field. Maggie Lloyd found Isabella DeMarco on the right side and she dribbled past three defenders for the score.
  • Fellow freshman Milla Syska capped off the scoring. Lloyd intercepted a pass and found Milla Syska who took it in for the score.
  • Western Carolina ended the match with 20 shots and gave up 10.
  • The big story for the Catamount defense was holding The Citadel's leading goal scorer, Suzuka Yosue who has 11 goals, to only two shots in the contest.

News & Notes:
  • Isabella DeMarco becomes just the fourth Catamount to score a hat-trick in a match in program history. Catamount Hall of Fame member Jordan Howell did it twice in her career.
  • The six goals scored by the Catamounts are tied for the second-most in program history. It is the first time since a 2008 meeting with The Citadel the team has scored six goals.
  • The Catamounts are enjoying their first winning streak of the season having won their last two contests.
  • Western Carolina's victory over The Citadel halts the Bulldogs' two-match winning streak and streak of two consecutive shutouts.
  • The six goals given up by The Citadel is the most this season and the most the Bulldogs have allowed since yielding eight goals in the loss to ETSU in 2015.
  • Western Carolina has scored 10 goals over the last two matches.

Up Next:
  • Western Carolina continues its three-match road swing traveling to Chattanooga Friday.
