Catamounts Head Out on Final SoCon Road Swing

Travel to Chattanooga and Samford

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's soccer sets out on its final Southern Conference road swing this weekend traveling to league leading Chattanooga Friday, for a 5 p.m. kick-off, and Samford Sunday at 2 p.m.

 AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • After going 2-0-1 over the last week, which included a make-up match at The Citadel, Western Carolina vaulted to third place in the Southern Conference standings.
  • Over the last two matches the Catamounts have had an offensive explosion scoring 10 goals. WCU scored four goals in the win over VMI and got shot out of a cannon against The Citadel with a season-high six goals.
  • The six goals scored against The Citadel were the second-most in a match in program history.
  • Western Carolina handed the Bulldogs of The Citadel their worst loss since 2015 when they gave up eight goals to ETSU.
  • Freshman Isabella DeMarco notched a hat trick against The Citadel – the fourth Catamount to succeeded in that feat and the fifth time overall. Hall of famer Jordan Howell did it twice in her career. She also now holds the program record for most points scored in a match with seven. 
  • Isabella DeMarco has scored a goal in back-to-back matches.
  • Junior Maggie Lloyd was named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week. She scored on goal and had four assists in the three matches over the last week. She also carries a 4.0 GPA in integrated health sciences.
  • Western Carolina has upped its goal total to 18 on the season and is giving up 19.
  • Redshirt freshman Eden Reece was in goal for the win at The Citadel. She picked up her second win in goal on the year.
  • Western Carolina and Chattanooga meet for the 24th time on Friday. The Catamounts hold a 12-8-3 advantage taking the win in Cullowhee in 2021 3-0. The Catamounts are 5-4-3 at Chattanooga with the last victory at the Mocs coming in 2014, a 4-0 shutout.
  • The Catamounts and Samford go up against each other for the 17th time on Sunday. The Bulldogs have won the last six meetings including the 2-1 win in Cullowhee in 2021 and are 13-2-1 against WCU. Western Carolina has never won in Birmingham but did tie Samford 1-1 in 2009.
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS:
  • Chattanooga remains undefeated in conference play. The Mocs tied Samford 1-1 Oct. 7.
  • The Mocs are 3-1-2 at home on the year.
  • Chattanooga has recorded four shutouts on the year.
  • The Mocs are even on goals scored and goals allowed at 14 apiece.
  • Clarissa Salinas and Mackenzie Smith each lead Chattanooga with three goals.
  • Preseason favorite Samford is 2-1-2 in conference play. The Citadel handed the Bulldogs its only loss in the SoCon 1-0.
  • Samford is 2-2-1 over the last five matches.
  • Kylie Gazza paces Samford with four goals and an assist.
