WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis closed out day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolina Regionals, hosted by Wake Forest, Friday.
WOMEN'S OPEN SINGLES:
A 1 Draw
Madison Schwarz battled Presbyterian's Claudia Sanchez Quesada winning a tie breaker 7-6 (8-6) in the first set and breezing through set two 6-2 to move to the round of 16 Saturday. She will face Furman's Jess Dawson.
Isabella Sambola dropped her match in the round of 32 to Charlotte's Lucie Petruzelova 5-7, 3-6.
A 2 Draw
Leilany Ipunesso fell to Duke's Lauren Gish 1-6, 1-6 in the round of 62.
B 1 Draw
Andrea Redondo Gutierrez won her match in the round of 62 6-0, 6-0 moving on to the round of 16. Saturday she will go up against UNC Wilmington's Lauren Robbins.
Chloe Schwarz received a bye on Friday and will be in action Saturday against UNCG's Juliana Craft.
B 2 Draw
Dasha Osadova fell in her round of 32 to Wake Forest's Madeline Lynch 4-6. 3-6.
CONSOLATION:
Jade Groen advanced in the consolation singles bracket Friday earning a 7-5, 6-3 win against Davidson's Fray. She will go up against Queens University's Jill Morse Saturday.
Angela Perez dropped her match battling in three sets 0-6, 6-3, 6-0 to Davidson's Daneila Porges.
A1 DOUBLES:
Gutierrez and Chloe Schwarz won their round of 16 match 8-6 in the round of 16 before falling in the quarterfinals before falling 2-8 to the due from NC State. Â
A 2 DOUBLES:
Ipunesso and Perez dropped its round of 16 match 8-1 to a tandem from South Carolina.
Madison Schwarz and Sambola dropped their round of 16 match to a Duke doubles team 1-8.
Western Carolina continues to play in the ITA Carolina Regional Saturday. Â
