DURHAM, N.C. – Leilany Ipunesso plays in the B draw singles championship Sunday as Western Carolina women's tennis completed day two at the NCCU Invitational, hosted by North Carolina Central.
Results:
B Draw Singles:
Ipunesso reached the championship of the B draw after two straight wins Saturday. She defeated Radford's Camryn McClure 6-1, 6-1 and won in a tiebreaker over Davidson's Daniela Porges 3-6, 7-5, 10-4.
Angela Perez advanced to the semifinals after her opponent withdrew in the quarterfinals. She lost in the semifinals 6-4, 4-6, 5-10.
Chloe Schwarz dropped her quarterfinal match 2-6, 6-4, 8-10.
A Draw Singles:
Isabella Sambola picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win in the quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals 1-6, 1-6.
Madison Schwarz dropped her quarterfinal match in a tiebreaker 6-7(4), 6-2, 9-11.
Jade Groen lost in the quarterfinals 2-6, 0-6.
A Draw Doubles:
The doubles tandem of Groen and Andrea Redondo Gutierrez won their first-round match 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals.
Perez and Madison Schwarz got a first-round bye and defeated the North Carolina State doubles team 6-3 to advance to the semifinals.
A fun note in this A draw – if Groen and Redondo Gutierrez are in their quarterfinal match they will face Perez and Madison Schwarz in the semi-finals.
B Draw Doubles:
Chloe Schwarz and Dasha Osadova made the quarterfinals with a 6-2 win.
Consolation:
Osadova lost in her consolation match 7-8(4).
Western Carolina continues to play in the NCCU Invitational Sunday.
