Catamounts Conclude Day One at Wofford Invite

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – A pair of Western Carolina women's tennis players will play in singles finals Sunday and another pair of doubles teams picked up wins and will play in the semi-finals, after day one of the Wofford Invitational Saturday. 
 
Results:
Gold Draw Singles:
Leilany Ipunesso defeated Radford's Julia Abrams 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 in the quarterfinals and received a semi-final bye. She will face Wofford's Lilly Woody in the finals Sunday at 10:30 a.m. 
 
Prevail Singles:
Jade Groen picked up a pair of wins on Saturday to work her way to the championship on Sunday. She defeated Amelie Allard from Queens 6-1, 6-3 in the quarterfinals and came back later in the day to knock off Mercer's Camilla Ciaccia 7-5, 5-7 (10-5). Groen faces Lexi Smolder of Radford Sunday.
 
Terrier Draw Doubles:
Angela Redondo Gutierrez and Chloe Schwarz picked up a 7-6 (7-5) victory over Queen's Amelie Allard and Hannah Aexlsson to move on to the semifinals Sunday. 
 
Dasha Osadova and Madison Schwarz lost in the quarterfinals 4-6 to a doubles team from Gardner-Webb.
 
SoCon Draw Doubles:
Angela Perez and Isabella Sambola advanced in their bracket to a mixed doubles team from Radford and Queens 6-0. The Catamount pair move to the semi-finals 
 
Conquer Draw Singles:
Madison Schwarz dropped her opening match in a hard-fought contest 5-7, 5-7 to UNC Asheville's Linge Steenkamp in the semifinals after a first-round bye.  
 
Black Draw Singles:
After a first-round bye, Isabella Sambola fell to Mercer's Eden Schlagenhauf 4-6, 1-6 in the semi-finals. 
 
 
White Draw Singles:
Perez got into a battle with Queen's Marina De Diego Quinones before falling 6-7 (5-7), 7-5 (12-10).
 
Terrier Draw Singles:
Redondo Gutierrez fell in the quarterfinals 2-6, 0-6.
 
Gold Draw Doubles:
Groen and Ipunesso lost in the quarterfinals 4-6 to a team from UNC Asheville.
 
Western Carolina concludes play at the Wofford Invitational Sunday.
