Catamounts Face Charleston Southern on the Road Wednesday

Fourth-straight road game

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball travels to Charleston Southern Wednesday for an 11 am brunch meeting with the Buccaneers at the Buccaneer Field House.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • The game at Charleston Southern is the third-straight contest Western Carolina will play in the state of South Carolina. WCU has already made trips to Presbyterian and USC Upstate over the last two games.
  • The Catamount's road win, at USC Upstate on Nov. 18, is the earliest the Catamounts have gotten a victory away from the Ramsey Center since the 2016-17 season when WCU won at EKU 72-61 on Nov. 22, 2016.
  • Charleston Southern is the fourth of six Big South members the Catamounts will face this season. WCU defeated Winthrop 48-47 on Nov. 10, lost to Presbyterian (Nov. 15) 68-67, and defeated USC Upstate 58-48 (Nov. 18). Now the Catamounts tangle with UNCA (Nov. 28), and Campbell (Dec. 6).
  • Shayane Poirot-Allard is averaging 11.5 points per game which is tied for 11th in the SoCon. Her 48 percent shooting from behind the 3-point line is good for fifth in the conference and her 12 made three-pointers, on the year, ranks her second in the SoCon
  • The Catamounts have had at least one double-figurer scorer in the first five games. The Catamounts have had two or more double-figure scorers in four of the first five games.
  • Western Carolina and Charleston Southern meet for the 14th time on Wednesday. Western Carolina is 10-3 all-time against the Buccaneers. The Catamounts have won three of the last five with both losses in that span coming at Charleston Southern. WCU is 7-0 against the Buccaneers at home and 3-3 in Charleston. In the last game at Charleston Southern, on Dec. 13, 2020, the Buccaneers came away with a 66-56 victory. Western Carolina's last win at Charleston Southern was 41 years ago, on Feb. 13, 1981, defeating the Bucs 85-63. In the 2000s WCU is 0-3 at Charleston Southern.
 
  AN INSIDE LOOK AT CHARLESTON SOUTHERN:
  • Charleston Southern is on a four-game losing streak and looking for its first NCAA Division I win of the season.
  • Western Carolina is the first of three Southern Conference schools Charleston Southern will face over the next month. The Buccaneers will travel to Furman (Nov. 26) and host ETSU (Dec. 14).
  • The Buccaneers have scored under 35 points in the last two games.
  • Catherine Alben leads Charleston Southern with 10 points per game.
  • The Buccaneers have hit eight or more three-pointers in three of its five games this season including 11 treys in its opening win against Georgia College and State.
