Catamounts Close out Five-Game Road Swing at UNCA

Looks to close out road swing with victory

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball closes out its five-game road swing Monday at UNC Asheville. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. at Kimmel Arena.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • After closing out its five-game road swing at UNC Asheville on Nov. 28, Western Carolina will play its next three games at home and six of its next eight.
  • Sophomore Shayane Poirot-Allard has played all but one minute in the last three games with 40-minute games against Presbyterian and USC Upstate and 39 vs. Charleston Southern.
  • UNC Asheville is the fifth of six Big South members the Catamounts will face this season. WCU defeated Winthrop 48-47 on Nov. 10, lost to Presbyterian (Nov. 15) 68-67, defeated USC Upstate 58-48 (Nov. 18), and lost to Charleston Southern (Nov. 23) 62-43. WCU will close out its tour through the Big South by hosting Campbell (Dec. 6).
  • Graduate student Kyla Allison returned to the lineup against Charleston Southern after missing the previous two games due to injury. She scored 12 second-half points to lead the Catamounts with 14 points against the Buccaneers. 
  • Poirot-Allard has scored in double figures in back-to-back games and leads the team averaging 11.2 points per game.
  • Western Carolina and UNC Asheville meet for the 59th time on Monday. The Catamounts lead the overall series 40-18 but have lost the last four meetings to the Bulldogs. In the 2021-22 campaign, the Catamounts lost in overtime to UNCA, in Cullowhee, 74-72. WCU's last win over the Bulldogs was on Nov. 12, 2017, at home, 62-52. Western Carolina is 18-9 at UNCA with its last win in Asheville coming on Dec. 17, 2014, 79-66.
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT UNC ASHEVILLE:
  • Western Carolina is the second-straight Southern Conference school UNC Asheville will face. The Bulldogs lost to Chattanooga 60-48 on Nov. 23.
  • The game with the Catamounts will be just the fifth game for the Bulldogs as opposed to WCU playing its seventh game against UNCA.
  • UNCA will play its second-straight home game when it hosts the Catamounts Monday.
  • The Bulldogs have two players averaging double-figure scoring led by Mallory Bruce's 11 points followed by McKinley Brooks-Sumpter's 10.8.
  • The Catamounts have hit double the amount of three-pointers that UNCA has with 32 to the Bulldogs' 16.
