Catamounts Host NC Central Monday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball hosts North Carolina Central at 7 p.m. Monday on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center.

Once again, this season, WCU Athletics will implement a clear bag policy for all home men's and women's basketball games in the Ramsey Center. Only standard clear bags, 12-inches by 6-inches by 12-inches in size, small purses approximately 4.5-inches by 5-inches not including the strap, and clear gallon-size storage bags are permitted. Diaper bags (child must be present upon entry) and any medical-related bags will be allowed.

Catamount fans who bring a new unwrapped to the game will receive a free ticket for admission to the game. All toys donated will go to Jackson County Christmas Connection!

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina is enjoying its best start, in the first 12 games, since the 2014-15 season. The Catamounts are 6-6 over the first 12 contests just under the mark of 7-5 to open the 2014-15 campaign.
  • Western Carolina is 5-1 at home this season. The Catamounts are one home win away from tying its six win total from the 2021-22 campaign.
  • The Catamounts' 69 points against Montreat is the first time WCU has scored 60 or more points since the 68-59 victory over Queens on Dec. 1. The 69 points is also a season-high for the Catamounts.
  • Graduate student Kyla Allison is 19-of-20 from the free throw line this season shooting 95 percent from the charity stripe. The 85 percent free throw percentage ranks second in the WCU record books for free throw percentage in a season.
  • Junior Audrey Meyers has had a strong start to the season. She has scored 63 points, in 12 games, and is one point shy of tying her season total of 64 in the 2021-22 season. She has also ripped down a career-best 60 rebounds also averaging a career-best 5.0 rebounds on the season. Meyers has also connected on a career-best 17 free throws on the year besting her total of 11 she hit in her freshman and sophomore year.
  • Western Carolina and North Carolina Central meet for the sixth time Monday. The Catamounts hold a 3-2 advantage over the Eagles, however NC Central has won the last two meetings. The two teams last met on Nov. 14, 2014 with North Carolina Central getting the win in Cullowhee, 64-59. Western Carolina's last win over the Eagles came on Nov. 12, 2012 taking a 67-55 victory in the Ramsey Center. Western Carolina is 2-1 at home against North Carolina Central. The two clubs first met on Nov. 30, 1979 with an 98-56 win by WCU.
 
 AN INSIDE LOOK AT NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL:
  • North Carolina Central is 2-3 over the last five games after picking up a home 72-70 win over Appalachian State Dec. 15.
  • The Eagles have four wins on the season with two of the four against non-NCAA Division I opponents.
  • NC Central is 1-5 on the road this season. The Eagles lone road win came at Chicago State.
  • Jerni Kiaku leads North Carolina Central averaging 11.3 points per game.
  • NC Central is giving up 72.7 points per game.
