Catamounts Host Campbell Tuesday

Closes out three-game home stand

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball closes out its three-game home stand hosting Campbell at 7 p.m. Tuesday on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center.

Once again, this season, WCU Athletics will implement a clear bag policy for all home men's and women's basketball games in the Ramsey Center. Only standard clear bags, 12-inches by 6-inches by 12-inches in size, small purses approximately 4.5-inches by 5-inches not including the strap, and clear gallon-size storage bags are permitted. Diaper bags (child must be present upon entry) and any medical-related bags will be allowed.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Campbell is the last team from the Big South the Catamounts will face this season. WCU is currently 2-3 against Big South opponents on the year with wins over Winthrop and USC Upstate.
  • Graduate student Kyla Allison went over 500 career points, combining her scoring at Middle Tennessee and Western Carolina, and currently has 506 points. In three of her last four contests Allison has scored in double figures.
  • Western Carolina suffered its first home loss of the season after falling to UAB. The Catamounts are now 3-1 at home on the year.
  • Sophomore Shayane Poirot-Allard has played 33 plus minutes in the last six contests. She has played the full 40 minutes in two of those six (Presbyterian, USC Upstate).
  • Junior Joi Reid leads the Catamounts with 47 total rebounds. Here 6.7 rebounds per game is good for eighth in the SoCon.
  • Western Carolina and Campbell meet for the 23rd time on Tuesday. The Camels have won the last six meetings holding the Catamounts to 40 or below points in the last three contests. WCU's last win over Campbell came in 2014 with a 67-57 win on Nov. 24 in Cullowhee. In the "Whee" Western Carolina is 5-6 over Campbell. WCU is 1-9 over the last 10 contests.
 
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT CAMPBELL:
  • Campbell ranks No. 4 nationally in scoring defense, holding foes to an average of 49.3 points per game this season.
  • The Camels also rank No. 15 in field goal percentage defense, limiting teams to shoot just 33.4% from the field, and rank No. 8 in 3-point percentage defense, holding teams to 22.0% shooting from behind the arc.
  • Campbell ranks No. 34 nationally averaging 4.9 blocks per game.
  • Graduate guard Shy Tuelle has started the season as one of the top shooters in the country. Tuelle ranks No. 2 nationally making 3.71 threes per game and No. 15 with 26 total made threes.
