Catamounts Travel to Samford Saturday

Closes out two-game road swing

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball concludes a two-game road swing at 3 p.m. Saturday at Samford.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Samford meet for the 31st time on Saturday. The Bulldogs have won the last 12 meetings. The Catamounts' last victory over Samford was a 54-50 victory in Cullowhee on Jan. 13, 2014.  WCU's lone win over Samford in Birmingham came the first year the Bulldogs entered the SoCon, Feb. 23, 2009, defeating Samford 55-53. It began the Catamounts only win streak over Samford as WCU defeated the Bulldogs 66-53 in the 2009 SoCon Tournament on WCU's way to winning the tournament.
  • Western Carolina held Mercer to its lowest scoring output, 46-points, of the season. It is the first time the Bears have scored under 50 points in a game since scoring 47 points in the loss to UCF on Dec. 12, 2021.
  • Sophomore Joi Reid has scored in double figures in two of the last three games and led the team in rebounds in the last two games. She leads the team with 12 blocks on the year. She is averaging 7.1 points and 5.9 rebounds in conference only games. Seven of her 12 blocks have been in SoCon contests.
  • Madison Pack has hit 14 of her 17 three-pointers in conference only games.
 
 AN INSIDE LOOK AT SAMFORD:
  • Samford is on a four-game winning streak.
  • Andrea Cournoyer leads the Bulldogs averaging 17.8 points per game.
  • The Bulldogs are averaging 65.7 points per game and the Catamounts are holding opponents to 59 points per contest.
  • Samford is 7-4 at home on the year with four of is seven home wins against conference opponents.
