Catamounts Set for Pair of Weekend Matches

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis takes a swing through the state of South Carolina this weekend facing South Carolina State at 2 p.m. Saturday and Presbyterian at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Catamounts (3-2) come into the weekend on a two-match winning streak with wins over Tusculum and Gardner-Webb.

South Carolina State will be playing its second match in as many days when WCU travels to Orangeburg on Saturday. The Bulldogs will face Charleston Southern at noon Friday.

Western Carolina and South Carolina State meet for the 10th time. The Catamounts are 6-3 overall against the Bulldogs with South Carolina State winning the last meeting 4-0 on Feb. 23, 2020. WCU has won three of the last five contests.

Like South Carolina State, Presbyterian will have a match on Friday before hosting the Catamounts welcoming Coastal Carolina. Western Carolina and meet up for the 18th time on Sunday. The Blue Hose lead the series 11-5-1 and have won the last two meetings.

WCU has four players with three wins thus far as Antonella Benavides, Kata Foldeak, Hoda Habib, and Miray Konar each sit with three victories on the year. Luzia Obermeier and Jordyn King lead the Catamounts in doubles wins at 3-2.
