Western Carolina 5, Towson 0

Turning Point
Western Carolina scored four of its five runs in the first two innings and pitcher Savannah Rice was clicking on all cylinders to aid the Catamounts in their shutout of the Tigers.

How it Happened
  • Brooklynn Brewington led off the first with a bunt single and moved to second on a ground out by Jeralynn Wells. Brewington moved to third on a stolen base.
  • After Bailey Huneycutt drew a walk, she and Brewington pulled off the double steal and Brewington came home for the first score of the game.
  • After a groundout put Huneycutt on third, Rice hit an RBI single past third base to score Huneycutt.
  • Henry's walk was the opening salvo of the bottom of the second. Lindsay Perillo followed with a single, but a double play erased her and Henry leaving Riley Lambert on first with two outs.
  • It took just one swing to put the Catamounts up 4-0 when Samantha Reele belted a home run to left-center field.
  • Myra Twitty capped off the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.

 Inside the Box Score
  • Rice tossed a complete game shutout allowing eight hits and striking out five and did not yield a walk. She improves to 3-0 on the year.
  • As a team, the Catamounts turned two double plays and caught a runner attempting to steal second in the game.
  • Western Carolina had seven hits in the game.

Turning Point
Tied 1-1, in the bottom of the second, back-to-back singles by Lambert and Addie Pate placed runners on first and second. Henry came up and hit an RBI single up the middle scoring Lambert for the walk-off run.

How it Happened
  • The game was scoreless through four innings until Youngstown State's Taylor Truan hit a lead-off solo home run.
  • The speedy Brooklynn Brewington tied the game for the Catamounts in the bottom of the sixth. She singled over the head of the Penguin's third baseman and a Youngstown State error allowed her to move to third and she scored on a throw from right field.
  • With two outs, Youngstown State attempted to break open the tie in the top of the seventh, but a ground out ended their chances.
  • The Catamounts took advantage of their chances to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
