WCU is 9-15 overall and 3-8 in league games following a tough 76-69 road loss against VMI on Friday. Just two days after scoring a career-best 37 points,
Nicholas Robinson etched his name in the Catamount record books with the third triple-double in WCU's NCAA Division I era, according to available records. The Chicago native scored 19 points with 13 rebounds and 10 assists as he joined
Mason Faulkner as the only WCU players with a triple-double as a D-I program.
Tyler Harris finished one point shy of tying his career-high with an 18-point performance while
Joe Petrakis added 17 points.
UNCG is 13-10 overall and 5-6 in conference play after a gritty 58-56 road win over first-place Furman on Saturday afternoon at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in downtown Greenville, S.C., snapping a two-game slide. Bas Leyte led the Spartans with 11 points and 10 rebounds while De'Monte Buckingham scored a team-best 12 points. Buckingham, a graduate transfer from Cal-State Bakersfield, is the lone UNCG player averaging double-figure scoring at 13.6 points per game, 18th in the SoCon. The Spartans enter the week sitting in the sixth-place transfer spot for the upcoming conference tournament, a half-game behind fifth-place Wofford and just a game up on the seventh-place tie between Samford and The Citadel. UNCG's calling card this season has been defense as it limits opponents to 64.9 points on 41.7-percent shooting from the field, both second in the SoCon.
The Catamounts lead the all-time series against UNCG 33-26, ending a 10-game losing skid in the series with an 81-80 triumph in Greensboro on Feb. 24. WCU has won 19 of the 28 series meetings played in Cullowhee all-time, but look to halt a five-game slide against the Spartans inside the Ramsey Center.
WCU returns to the road for the first of back-to-back road games on Wednesday, heading to Chattanooga for a 7 p.m. contest.
