Catamounts Travel to Mercer Thursday

First of two-game road swing

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball begins a two-game road swing Thursday traveling to Mercer for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Mercer meet for the 24th time on Thursday. The Catamounts have lost their last five meetings with the Bears and nine of the last 10 contests. Western Carolina's lone victory over Mercer came in Cullowhee with WCU defeating Mercer 51-40 on Feb. 1, 2020. The two teams have played in a pair of overtime games in their past 23 meetings with the Bears winning 92-88 on Jan. 9, 2016, and 69-62 on Feb. 4, 2021.
  • This week, Western Carolina added a final non-conference game to the 2021-22 season. The Catamounts will play a second game with Emory & Henry this season.
  • Sophomore Audrey Meyers had a solid showing against Wofford on Feb. 5. She came off the bench to tie her career-high with 10 points, hitting a pair of three-pointers, and ripped down six rebounds.
  • Sophomore Joi Reid has scored in double figures in back-to-back games scoring a career-high 13 points against Wofford on Feb. 5. She is shooting .542 percent from the field in SoCon games and averaging 7.4 points per game. She is also averaging 5.6 rebounds per contest in conference only games.
  • WCU's 825 rebounds this season ranks third in the SoCon.
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT MERCER:
  • Mercer's Amoria Neal-Tysor is the reigning Southern Conference Player of the Week. She leads the Bears averaging 15.2 points per game.
  •  Jaron Doughtery (11.9) and Shannon Titus (10.7) are the second and third Bears averaging double figures this season.
  • Mercer is on a four-game winning streak and leads the SoCon with an 8-1 record.
  • In the Catamounts last meeting with the Bears, on Jan. 15, Mercer beat WCU in Cullowhee 69-58.
