Joi Reid Named to SoCon All-Defensive Team

First Catamount to earn spot on defensive team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball sophomore Joi Reid was named to the Southern Conference All-Defensive Team on Tuesday afternoon as the league announced its 2021-22 postseason honors.
 
Reid earned a spot on the defensive team voted on by the league coaches. She is the first Catamount to earn a spot on the team since its inception in the 2018-19 season.
 
An energetic second-year guard from Ellenwood, Ga., Reid moved into the Catamount starting lineup earlier this season against Alabama back on Nov. 26, 2021 and has started every game since. She ranks second on the WCU squad with 25 steals this season and has added a team-best 15 blocked shots with seven coming against conference opponents.
 
Reid has pulled down a total of 138 rebounds this season, which is good for second on the team, averaging 4.4 rebounds per game.
 
Earlier this season, Reid had a career-best 13 rebounds against USC Upstate and notched the first double-double of her career with 11 points and 11 rebounds against Mercer on Jan. 15. She also had a career-best four blocks against Wofford on Jan. 5.
 
All told, Reid has scored in double figures thrice this season including a career-best 13 points against Wofford Feb. 5.
 
Western Carolina is the No. 8 seed in the upcoming 2022 Ingles SoCon Women's Basketball Championship facing No. 1 seed Mercer at 11 am Thursday at Harrah's Cherokee Center – Asheville in Asheville, N.C. Thursday's game will be broadcast on the Catamount Sports Network with live streaming audio available online at CatamountSports.com beginning at 10:30 a.m. The game can also be seen with live streaming video through ESPN+ (paid subscription required).
