Catamounts Travel to N.C. Central Tuesday

First of two mid-week doubleheaders on the week

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball hits the road for a mid-week tilt at North Carolina Central Tuesday. The Catamounts and Eagles will play a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. in N.C. Central's home opener.

Series Breakdown
  • Western Carolina and North Carolina Central meet for the eighth and ninth time. The Catamounts hold a 5-2 record over the Eagles and have won the last four meetings. 

Notes:
  • The Eagles will be playing for the first time in a week and only the third time this month.
  • NCCU (2-13 Overall) last dropped a 10-0 single game at North Carolina State University last Tuesday. A team Western Carolina shut out 1-0 earlier in the season.
  • Freshman outfielder Jaidyn Hamby leads N.C. Central with a .297 batting average. Hamby also leads NCCU with seven RBI, five runs, and two doubles.
 
WESTERN CAROLINA NOTES
 
  • Western Carolina went 1-2 at the Thundering Herd March Madness Tournament hosted by Marshall University. 
  • Rookie Natalie Henry leads the Catamounts with a .306 batting average. 
  • Henry hit an inside-the-park home run against Norfolk State Mar. 13. It was Henry's third home run of the season. 
  • Junior catcher Samantha Reele is on a five-game hitting streak.
  • Against Fairfield, on Mar. 11, junior pitcher Savannah Rice struck out a career-high 13.
  • As a team, the Catamounts have had at least one home run in three of the last four games. 
  • Rice leads the pitching staff with 65 strikeouts. 
  • Junior Brooklynn Brewington has 11 stolen bases on the season. She ranks second in the Southern Conference and is six stolen bases away from breaking the program record for stolen bases in a season.
