WCU Football Spring Update #2 – Saturday, March 19

Catamounts put on shoulder pads for the first time this spring on Saturday

Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina football returned to the sun-soaked turf at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field on Saturday morning for its third practice session of its 2022 spring drills. The team worked out for just over two hours, donning shoulder pads along with helmets for the first time this spring amidst the best weather conditions to date.

Saturday's 24-period practice, which individual position, unit, and team sessions, was very spirited as both competition and contact continued to ramp up for the Catamounts. The special teams portion of the practice centered around punt coverage and punt return, rotating several skill players back to field punts as WCU looks to replace punt return specialist Daquan Patten who exhausted his collegiate eligibility last fall.

The Catamount football team breaks until returning to the practice field on Tuesday, March 22, for its fourth session of the spring. Three weekday practices lead up to the squad's first scrimmage of the spring next Saturday, March 26. WCU will also scrimmage on April 2 ahead of the Spring Football Showcase, presented by UltraStar Multi-tainement Center at Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort that's scheduled for Saturday, April 9.
