Catamounts Open SoCon Play at ETSU

Three-game series begins Saturday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball opens Southern Conference play on the road this weekend at East Tennessee State. The altered schedule, due to inclement weather, now has the Catamounts facing the Buccaneers in a single game Saturday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader Sunday with a 1 p.m. start time.

Series Breakdown
 
EAST TENNESSEE STATE
 
  • Western Carolina and ETSU meet on the 26th, 27th, and 28th times this weekend. 
  • The Catamounts swept the 2021 three-game series in Cullowhee. 
  • This weekend's series in Johnson City will be the first time the Catamounts have played at ETSU since 2018. 
 
Notes:
  • ETSU is on a 16-game losing streak.
  • The Buccaneers are 0-5 at home this season. 
  • ETSU has had seven games cut short this season due to the run-run (eight or more runs after five innings). 
  • As a team, ETSU has hit one home run this season and given up 36.

  • Bailey Huneycutt is on a 10-game hitting streak.
  • Freshman Natalie Henry has reached base safely in the last 17 games.
  • Junior Brooklynn Brewington stole her 13th base of the season against Gardner-Webb and ranks fifth in the WCU record books. 
  • Huneycutt has 28 career home runs and sits in third place in the WCU record books. She needs two home runs to usurp former Catamount Lauren Ross who ended her career with 29. 
  • Huneycutt has hit a home run in back-to-back games and is tied with teammate Myra Twitty for most home runs this season with six. 
  • Catamount pitcher Savannah Rice has 177 career strikeouts. She needs 23 to become the eighth pitcher in program history to have 200 or more strikeouts in a career. 
  • In the last five games, Huneycutt has been on fire at the plate. She has a .471 batting average with three of her six home runs in the last five contests. She also has eight hits, four runs scored, and nine RBI.
