Catamounts Travel to North Carolina A&T Wednesday

Mid-week tune-up before SoCon home opener

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball travels to Greensboro, N.C. Wednesday to take on North Carolina A&T. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.

Series Breakdown
 
North Carolina A&T
 
  • Western Carolina and North Carolina A&T meet for the 27th and 28th time on Wednesday.
  • The Catamounts have won the last 13 meetings including the doubleheader 2021 in Cullowhee defeating the Aggies 3-0, 9-1 (6 innings).
  • In the April 13, 2016 game, at North Carolina A&T, former Catamount Taylor Sigmon tossed the first perfect game in Western Carolina softball history with the 5-0 game one win.
  • Overall, the Catamounts are 10-4 at North Carolina A&T.
 
Notes:
  • North Carolina A&T is on a three-game losing streak after being swept by Longwood in Big South action.
  • The Aggies have found success at home with a 9-5 record in their complex. N.C. A&T is 0-9 in road games.
  • North Carolina A&T is 1-4 in the last five games.
  • Dezianna Patmon leads the Aggies at the plate with a .381 batting average. Teammate Icess Tresvik is also hitting above .300 with .333 and also tops the team 26 hits, eight home runs and 25 RBI.
  • Tresvik also leads the team in circle with 52 strikeouts.
 
 
 
WESTERN CAROLINA NOTES
 
  • Senior Bailey Huneycutt is on a 13-game hitting streak. In those 13 games she is hitting .432 with 19 hits, three doubles, six of her seven home runs on the season and 20 RBI.
  • Senior Myra Twitty is on a 10-game on base streak.
  • Junior Brooklynn Brewington tied the school record for stolen bases in a season in the series at ETSU over the weekend. She has 16 stolen bases and is tied with former Catamounts Amelia Griffin and Jordan Fulton.
  • Huneycutt hit her 29th career home run and is tied for second in the WCU record books with former Catamount standout Lauren Ross.
  • As a team, Western Carolina has hit at least one home run in the last nine games.
  • Pitcher Savannah Rice has 185 career strikeouts and ranks ninth in the WCU record books. She needs 15 strikeouts to hit 200 marking the eighth Catamount pitcher to have 200 or more strikeouts in a season. Rice also has 21 career wins in the circle which puts her in sixth place in the WCU record books.
  • Rice's six home runs she has hit this season is the most for a Catamount pitcher since Lauren Ross also had six in 2008. Rice's six long balls are the third-most by a Catamount pitcher in program history. Ross hit 11 in her freshman campaign in 2006 and 10 in 2007.
