Catamounts Travel to Samford and Alabama State

Taking a swing through the state of Alabama

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis travels to the state of Alabama this weekend competing at Samford Friday at 2 p.m. and Alabama State on Saturday at 1 p.m.    
 
NEWS & NOTES 
  • Western Carolina and Samford meet for the 14th time on Friday. The Bulldogs hold an 11-2 advantage over the Catamounts. 
  • In 2019, the Catamounts got its first home win against Samford defeating the Bulldogs 4-3. WCU dropped the 2021 match, at home, 6-1 dropping all six singles matches after winning the doubles point.
  • Samford is 9-6 on the season and is 2-0 in Southern Conference play with wins over UNCG and Mercer. 
  • The Bulldogs had its five-match winning snapped with a 4-1 loss to Memphis Mar. 27.
  • Western Carolina and Alabama State meet for the first time on Saturday.
  • Just like Samford, Alabama State is also 9-6 on the year.
  • Alabama State is on a two-match winning streak and is 5-1 at home. The Hornets are also 8-1 in the SWAC.
  • Western Carolina won its 10th match of the season with a 4-0 win at Alabama A&M Sunday, Mar. 27. It is the third time in the known Catamount women's tennis history the program has had double-digit wins in a season. The record is 13 victories which occurred in 2016. The 2019 club had 12 wins. 
  • Sophomores Antonella Benavides and Kata Foldeak each lead the team with seven singles wins. 
  • Foldeak paces the team with 10 wins in doubles. 
  • Jordyn King and Julia Pezzuco each have 23 career wins in doubles which is good for eighth in the Western Carolina record books.
