Women’s Golf Set for Oyster Shuck Match-Play

WCU is the event’s top-seed among eight teams in the field

Charleston, S.C. – After nearly a month layover since opening its spring semester at the Lady Bison Classic at Bay Point in Florida, the Western Carolina women's golf team returns to action on Monday and Tuesday, March 7-8, for the Oyster Shuck Match Play, hosted by Southern Conference foe The Citadel at the par-72, 5,810-yard Charleston Municipal Golf Course.

In addition to the Catamounts and the host Bulldogs, the tournament field includes golfers from Appalachian State, Austin Peay State, the College of Coastal Georgia, North Carolina A&T, Presbyterian, and Samford. WCU will be the top-seeded team in the eight-team field and will match up against Coastal Georgia in the opening round (see complete head-to-head match-ups below).

Coaches from the two teams will determine the match-up draws before each head-to-head competition after meeting Sunday night to determine Monday morning's draw.

Western Carolina's scoring five for the match-play event includes senior Madison Isaacson, junior Victoria Ladd, redshirt freshman Kayleigh Baker, and freshmen Elizabeth Lohbauer and Kaitlyn Wingnean. Lohbauer enters the weekend as WCU's leader in scoring average at 74.53 which puts her 16th among the SoCon rankings, just ahead of Isaacson in 18th at 75.47. Ladd is just outside the top 20 in 21st overall at 75.92.

The Catamounts are coming off an eighth-place finish in the spring-opening tournament back in early February at the Lady Bison Classic at Bay Point, hosted by Lipscomb in Panama City Beach, Fla. The match-play tournament is the second WCU has on its 2021-22 schedule as the Catamounts finished second at the Aggie Invitational hosted by NC A&T back in early October 2021.
