Catamounts Host UNCG in SoCon Home Opener

First home games since Feb. 16

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball hosts its Southern Conference home opener this weekend welcoming UNCG for a three-game series at the Catamount Softball Complex. The teams will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and close out the series Sunday at 1 p.m.

Series Breakdown
 
UNCG
 
· Western Carolina and UNCG for the 32, 33rd, and 34th times this weekend. 
· UNCG holds a 31-20 advantage over the Catamounts and has won the last five meetings including two games in the 2021 Southern Conference Championships. 
· The Catamounts and Spartans last met in the championship game of the 2021 SoCon Tournament. WCU dropped the game, and was the runner-up in the tournament, with a 9-4 loss. 
 
Notes:
· The Spartans are 22-10 overall, 3-0 in the conference, and are on a six-game winning streak. 
· Twenty of UNCG's 32 games this season have been at home. The Spartans are 1-4 when playing on the road this year with its lone win at Charlotte, 8-1.
· Maycin Brown leads the Spartans with a .417 batting average with 40 hits and six home runs.
· Morgan Scott paces the Spartans pitching staff with a 13-6 record, 124.2 innings pitched, one shutout, and 135 strikeouts. 
 
WESTERN CAROLINA NOTES
 
· In game one at North Carolina A&T Mar. 30 junior Brooklyn Brewington broke the program record for stolen bases in a season swiping her 17th base of the season. She added two more stolen bases in the series and tops the chart with 19 which also ranks second in the Southern Conference.
· As a team, Western Carolina has hit a home run in nine of its last 10 games. 
· WCU has hit at least one double in the last seven contests. 
· The Catamounts have now won three of its last five games. 
· Fourteen of Western Carolina's 15 wins this season have been on the road. 
· The Catamounts have not had a home game since Feb. 16. 
· Senior Bailey Huneycutt has had seven multiple-hit and multiple-RBI games this season.
· Senior Myra Twitty has reached base safely in the last 11 games. 
· Huneycutt tops the team with a .326 batting average leading the team in hits (29), home runs (7), and RBI (28).
· Savannah Rice has tossed 89 innings in the circle and has a record of 8-4. She has fanned 91 batters and has two shutouts on the year.
