Series Breakdown

TENNESSEE
  • Western Carolina and Tennessee meet for the seventh time on Wednesday. This will be the first time the two programs have met in Cullowhee. The Lady Vols have won all six meetings. Tennessee was ranked No. 2 when the two teams last met in 2014 in Knoxville. The Lady Vols are the first team from the Southeastern Conference to officially play at Western Carolina's home field.
  • In the fall of 2017 Mississippi State came to Cullowhee in the fall for a "fall ball" preseason game.

Notes:
  • Tennessee is coming off a pair of losses in the series against No. 15 Georgia this past weekend. The Lady Vols dropped game one 8-2, won the second game 11-5, and lost game three 12-4 in five innings.
  • The contest at Western Carolina is a culmination of a four-game road swing.
  • Tennessee has three players hitting above .300 led by Kiki Milloy's .355 batting average. Milloy has 43 hits, 12 home runs, and 36 RBI.
  • Erin Edmonson tops the pitching squad with a 2.18 ERA. In 109.2 innings pitched she has struck out 89.
  • 2022 Preseason All-SEC selection Ashley Rogers has had limited time in the circle for the Lady Vols. She has made 15 appearances with eight starts and thrown 54 innings with a 5-5 record and a 2.98 ERA. Rogers had a rough outing Sunday at Georgia tossing just 1.1 innings giving up seven runs and six hits before being lifted in the second inning.
  • The game at Western Carolina is only the Lady Vols' 11th road game of the season. In contrast, WCU has been road warriors with 18 games away from the Catamount Softball Complex.
  • Tennessee is 2-3 over its last five games.

WESTERN CAROLINA NOTES
  • Catamount freshman hurler Makenzie Martin got the first start of her Catamount career in Sunday's final game at Samford.
  • The six innings pitched by Makenzie Martin, against Samford April 10, is a Catamount career-high for the rookie hurler.
  • The Catamount pitching staff has struck out a total of 222 batters which is good for second place in the conference and just behind UNCG who has 243.
  • Bailey Huneycutt has 31 home runs in her career and sits in second place. She needs five home runs to take over first place held by former Catamount Hunter Gibbons who had 35 in her four-year tenure.
  • Savannah Rice has amassed 203 strikeouts in her career and becomes the eighth Catamount pitcher in program history to have 200 or more strikeouts in a career.
  • Junior outfielder Brooklynnn Brewington, the new single-season record holder for stolen bases in a season with 20, also ranks 31st in the NCAA for stolen bases in a season. That mark also ranks second in the conference and is only the second conference player on the season to have 20 or more stolen bases. She is two behind ETSU's Kelly Warren who has 22 on the year.
  • Rice's seven home runs she has hit this season is the most for a Catamount pitcher since Lauren Ross also had six in 2008. Rice's seven long balls are the third-most by a Catamount pitcher in program history. Ross hit 11 in her freshman campaign in 2006 and 10 in 2007.
  • Huneycutt leads the team in batting average (.327), hits (36), home runs (9) and RBI (32).
