CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina men's basketball head coach
Justin Gray today announced the addition of Tre Jackson for the 2022-23 season. A 6-0 guard, Jackson arrives in Cullowhee after playing the previous three seasons at Iowa State.
"Tre brings the experience of competing and making plays in big games," said Gray. "He has a background of winning and proving people wrong. The ability to create plays for himself and others is something we are truly excited about with Tre. More importantly, he is a well-rounded young man that brings lots of value to our program outside of what he does on the court. He truly represents our ABC's (Academics, Basketball and Character) and will be an asset to Catamount Country."
Jackson played in 74 career games for the Cyclones, making 18 starts while averaging 4.1 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.
During the 2021-22 season, he finished in double figures five times while making 25 3-pointers on 35.7-percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Columbia, S.C., native tallied a season-best 12 points on four occasions including against eventual national champion Kansas. In 2020-21, Jackson played in 16 games and averaged 5.1 points per game with a season-best 14 points against Oklahoma. He played in 31 games as a freshman in 2019-20 and started the final 12 while averaging 4.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 21.6 minutes per game. Jackson finished in double figures in four games including a career-best 18 against TCU where he made four of seven 3-point attempts.
Jackson attended Blythewood High School and averaged 20 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game as a senior to earn All-State honors. He was a 1,000-career point scorer for the Bengals and was ranked the No. 8 recruit in South Carolina. Jackson played AAU basketball for Team South Carolina.
