CULLOWHEE, N.C. – No. 15 Tennessee made its first appearance at the Catamount Softball Complex and came away with a 9-1 victory, in five innings, Wednesday against Western Carolina softball.

A record-breaking crowd of 426 filed into the stadium to see the Catamounts and Lady Vols play.Â

Tennessee hit five home runs in the game, three single shots, and two two-run home runs.Â

How it HappenedÂ
- After two scoreless innings, Tennessee hit back-to-back home runs in the third.
- In the fourth, the Lady Vols hit their third home run and also scored two more runs from an RBI single.
- A two-run home run and a single home run gave the Lady Vols push their lead to 9-0.
- Western Carolina avoided being shutout courtesy of pinch hitter Bailey Treadway who led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run to left field.Â

- Junior pitcher Savannah Rice got the start against Tennessee. She began the game by striking out Tennessee centerfielder Kiki Milloy.
- Rice tossed four innings giving up five runs on seven hits and struck out three. She falls to 8-10 on the year.
- Freshman hurler Makenzie Martin tossed the fifth inning allowing four runs on three hits and struck out one.Â
- Catamount's first baseman Myra Twitty got the Catamounts' first hit in the game – a frozen rope to left-centerfield in the bottom of the second.Â
- The Catamounts sat Tennessee down in order in the second inning.Â

- The No. 15 Lady Vols was the first ranked opponent the Catamounts have hosted at the Catamount Softball Complex.Â

- Rice now has 112 strikeouts this season and sits in 11th place for strikeouts in a season. She needs four strikeouts to move into 10th place.Â
