Catamounts Host Mercer Thursday in Final Regular Season Match

Looking to solidify sixth seed in upcoming SoCon tournament

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis closes out the 2022 regular season Thursday welcoming Mercer to the Catamount Athletic Complex. UPDATED TIME - 2 p.m.

NEWS & NOTES
  • Western Carolina and Mercer meet for the 13th time on Thursday.
  • The Bears took the last meeting, on April 18, 2021, 5-2 in Macon, Ga.
  • Mercer is looking for its first Southern Conference victory of the season sitting at 0-5 in conference play.
  • Western Carolina, which is currently in sixth place, is looking to solidify that spot with a victory over Mercer. At the moment WCU and UNCG are both 1-5 in conference play, but the Catamounts have the tiebreaker over the Spartans. A Catamount victory would cement the sixth-place finish.
  • Should Western Carolina secure the sixth seed it would tie for the highest seed in the program's history. The Catamounts also earned the sixth seed in the 2018 season.
  • In the match against Wofford on Monday, senior Jacy Smith won her 34th career doubles match and continues to rank fourth in the WCU record books.
  • Sophomore Kata Foldeak won her eighth singles match of the season and her 17th in her career – moving her into the top 25 in the Catamount record books.
  • Western Carolina currently has 11 victories this season – the third-most in program history. A win over Mercer, on Thursday, would give the Catamounts 12 wins – tying for the second-most in the program's history.
