Catamounts Host Presbyterian Tuesday

Final nonconference doubleheader of the season

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball hosts Presbyterian Tuesday in the Catamounts' final non-conference doubleheader of the season. The twin-bill is set to begin at 4 p.m. at the Catamount Softball Complex.

 Series Breakdown
 
PRESBYTERIAN
  • Western Carolina and Presbyterian meet for the 22nd and 23rd time on Tuesday.
  • The Blue Hose swept the doubleheader in Clinton, S.C. on April 14, 2021, 2-1, 3-0, and have won three of the last five meetings. 
  • Western Carolina is 5-2 at home against Presbyterian. 
  • The two teams last met in Cullowhee on Mar. 29, 2016, with the Catamounts taking the doubleheader 7-3, 2-1. 
 Notes:
  • Presbyterian comes into Cullowhee with a 26-10 record and has won three of its last five games. 
  • The Blue Hose have only played nine games on the road with a record of 4-5. 
  • Kaitlyn Tucker leads Presbyterian with a .385 batting average. She has 37 hits. Layna Johnson paces the Blue Hose in home runs with five.
  • As a team, Presbyterian has hit 30 home runs on the season.
  • In the circle, Morgan Hess has a 2.01 ERA with an 11-4 record and 100 strikeouts. Fellow hurler Jenna Greene has a 2.06 ERA with a 13-5 record and 146 strikeouts. 
 
 WESTERN CAROLINA NOTES
  • Western Carolina took its second Southern Conference series of the season taking two of three from Mercer over the weekend.
  • Seniors Bailey Huneycutt and Myra Twitty each hit grand slams in the series with the Bears. 
  • In the series with Mercer, Western Carolina hit nine home runs as a team and scored 30 runs. 
  • Huneycutt has 33 career home runs and is three shy of breaking the program record for home runs in a career. 
  • Huneycutt's 41 RBI on the year is a season-high and ranks second in the Southern Conference. 
  • Junior Brooklynn Brewington's program record of 22 stolen bases this season is good for second in the conference. That mark also ranks 32nd in the NCAA.
  • Western Carolina's 41 home runs this season ranks fifth in the WCU record books. 
  • Catamount hurler Savannah Rice now has 127 strikeouts on the season moving her ninth in the WCU record books for strikeouts in a season.
