Catamounts End Season with Loss to Samford at SoCon Tourney

Concludes season with 12 wins - tied second-most wins in program history

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – No. 6 seed Western Carolina women's tennis ended the 2022 season with a loss to No. 3 seed Samford 4-0 Thursday at the Champions Club at Chattanooga, Tenn.
 
TURNING POINT:
Samford clinched the doubles point winning two of the three completed matches. The Bulldogs went on to take the match with wins at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
 
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Freshman Miray Konar had a tight match at No. 2 singles before it was halted after the Bulldogs clinched the match. She dropped the first set in a tie breaker 6-7 (4-7) before it was stopped.
  • Senior Jacy Smith dropped the first set of her match at No. 4 singles 3-6 but was battling back to a 3-3 tie in the second set before it was halted.
 
 NOTES:
  • Western Carolina's 12 wins on the season is tied for the second-most in program history.
  • Smith ends her career with 31 singles wins which is good for fifth in the Catamount record books. Her 35 doubles victories put her at second in the WCU record books.
  • Seniors Julia Pezzuco and Jordyn King ended their careers with 25 doubles wins which is good for sixth in the Catamount record books.
