CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball travels to Samford this weekend for a three-game Southern Conference series. The contest begins Saturday with a doubleheader set for 2 p.m. and a single game Sunday also at 2 p.m.

Series Breakdown
SAMFORD
- Western Carolina and Samford meet for the 40th, 41st and 42nd time this weekend. Western Carolina has won the last four meetings which includes a series sweep of the Bulldogs in 2021. Overall, the Catamounts have a 21-18 advantage over Samford including take five conference series from the Bulldogs. The Catamounts are 6-9 at Samford and WCU is 6-4 over the Bulldogs in the last 10 meetings.
Notes:
- Samford is 3-0 in Southern Conference play after sweeping the series with Mercer last weekend.
- Samford is led by M.K. Tedder who is has a .368 batting average with 11 doubles, five home runs and 27 RBI.
- McKenzie Newcomb paces the Bulldogs in the circle with a 1.58 ERA, a 13-7 record and 113 strikeouts.
- The Bulldogs are 7-2 at home this season.
- Three of Samford's last six games have been postponed or canceled and is 3-2 over the last five games played.
WESTERN CAROLINA NOTES
- Senior Bailey Huneycutt has gotten at least one hit in the last three games and five of the last six.
- As a team, Western Carolina ranks third in the SoCon with 29 home runs.
- The Catamount pitching staff has struck out a total of 213 batters which is good for second place in the conference and just behind UNCG who has 214.
- Bailey Huneycutt has 30 home runs in her career and sits in second place. She needs six home runs to take over first place held by former Catamount Hunter Gibbons who had 24 in her four-year tenure.
- Catamount pitcher Savannah Rice has 198 career strikeouts and needs two to become the eighth Catamount pitcher to go over 200 strikeouts in a career.
- Junior outfielder Brooklynnn Brewington, the new single-season record holder for stolen bases in a season with 19, also ranks 25th in the NCAA for stolen bases in a season. That mark also ranks second in the conference.
- In conference only games, Huneycutt is hitting .400 with six hits, four runs scored, a double, two home runs and four RBI.
