Zach Ketterman Named to SoCon All-Tournament Team

Sophomore infielder paced WCU’s offense at postseason event

Greenville, S.C. – Western Carolina sophomore third-baseman Zach Ketterman was today named to the 2022 Southern Conference All-Tournament team as play concluded at the week-long postseason tournament at Fluor Field at the West End.

Ketterman paced the Catamounts in three games at the SoCon Tournament with a .500 batting average, finishing 5-for-10 with a double and two home runs – both coming against the eventual tournament champion UNCG. The Biglerville, Pa., native added a walk to help bolster his .500 on-base percentage, scoring a team-best five runs.

Ketterman posted two multi-hit games, finishing 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's single-elimination win over VMI that propelled the Catamounts into the double elimination portion of the 2022 bracket. Against Samford, Ketterman drove in WCU's game-tying third on a sacrifice fly to right field. His three remaining hits came against UNCG, finishing 3-for-4 with his first career multi-homer game, scoring two runs, and driving in four in the 9-7 loss.

In the field, Ketterman posted three assists and a putout in manning the hot-corner at third base.

Fourth-seeded UNCG, which ended WCU's season on Friday evening with a 9-7 win, upended regular-season champion and top-seeded Wofford twice on Sunday by counts of 10-2 and 12-2 in seven innings to claim the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Baseball Championship regional field.

The awards are voted on by the media in attendance by an in-game voting tabulation with the 12-member team announced in the special postgame ceremony. Tournament champion UNCG placed six players on the honorary squad, followed by two apiece from Wofford and Samford with both Mercer and WCU earning one selection.
