Catamounts Set to Host Furman Saturday

Looks to build on momentum from win over Wofford

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball continues its three-game home stand hosting Furman at 2 p.m. Saturday on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center.

Once again, this season, WCU Athletics will implement a clear bag policy for all home men's and women's basketball games in the Ramsey Center. Only standard clear bags, 12-inches by 6-inches by 12-inches in size, small purses approximately 4.5-inches by 5-inches not including the strap, and clear gallon-size storage bags are permitted. Diaper bags (child must be present upon entry) and any medical-related bags will be allowed.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Furman meet for the 90th time on Saturday. The Paladins lead the series 50-39 and have won the last 10 meetings. Western Carolina's last win over Furman came in Cullowhee on Feb. 2, 2017, defeating the Paladins 75-72 in overtime. There have been four overtimes in the series. The Catamounts are 24-20 all-time against Furman at home. 
  • Western Carolina's eight wins are the most since the Catamount team in 2014-15 won 11 games.
  • Kyla Allison has scored in double figures in seven-straight games and nine of the last 10. She is averaging 16.2 points per game over the last 10 contests.
  • Joi Reid is the first Catamount this season to have double-figure rebounds in multiple games. She had 11 rebounds vs. Bluefield State and at Samford and 10 rebounds vs. Wofford. 
  • In conference-only games, Allison is averaging 16.7 points per game which ranks fifth in the SoCon. Teammate Reid's 9.7 rebounds in conference games are good for second. 
  • With the 53-49 conference win over Wofford, Western Carolina halted a 17-game losing streak in conference play.
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT FURMAN:
  • Furman is on a two-game losing streak having lost its first two SoCon games of the season.
  • The Paladins are 2-7 in road games with victories at Presbyterian and UNC Asheville. 
  • Furman has lost three of its last five games.
  • The Paladins have two players averaging in double figures led by Grace vin Rij's 13.4 points per game. Jaelyn Acker is just behind vin Rij averaging 12.7.
