Catamounts Open 2023 Season at Home Saturday

Hosts Lenoir-Rhyne

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis opens the 2023 season at home at 2 p.m. Saturday hosting Lenoir-Rhyne at the Catamount Tennis Complex.
It is the second-straight year the Catamounts open the season with Lenoir-Rhyne.

This will be the 13^th meeting between the Catamounts and Bears with WCU holding a 10-2 advantage. Western Carolina has won the last six meetings and is 6-0 at home against Lenoir-Rhyne. The two clubs last met on Jan. 19, 2022, with the Catamounts winning 5-2 in the dual match.

Western Carolina competed in three tournaments in the fall portion of its schedule. Beaver and the Catamounts welcome seven newcomers – six freshmen and one transfer – to the roster, joining the squad's lone returner in Angela Perez, a sophomore from Tarragona, Spain. WCU's freshmen include Jade Groen (Zoetermeer Netherlands), Leilany Ipunesso (New Caledonia), Dasha Osadova (London, England), Isabella Sambola (New Orleans, La.), and twins, Chloe and Madison Schwarz (Adelaide, Australia). Angela Redondo Gutierrez (Denia, Spain) transferred to WCU from the University of Idaho after collecting three singles and six doubles victories for the Vandals in 2021-22.
