Catamounts Travel to ETSU Thursday

First of a two-game road swing

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball begins a two-game road swing at 7 p.m.Thursday traveling to Johnson City, Tenn. to take on the ETSU Buccaneers in Brooks Gym.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and ETSU meet for the 79th time on Thursday as the Bucs hold a 55-73 advantage. ETSU swept the series last season as WCU scored under 52 points in both games. Western Carolina halted a 13-game losing streak to the Bucs in Johnson City on Feb. 23, 2021, defeating ETSU 62-48. ETSU has won nine of the last 10 contests. WCU is 5-32 at ETSU. 
  • Junior Mya Love has scored in double figures in three of the last four games she has seen action in. She has bested her seasonal scoring output of 135 in her final season at Arkansas State with 188 this year at Western Carolina. Combining her time at Arkansas State and Western Carolina, Love has eclipsed 500 points of scoring with 501. 
  • For her career, Kyla Allison has scored 683 points, including her time at Middle Tennessee. 501 of the 683 have scored at Western Carolina. She is currently averaging 11.9 points per game in her career with the Catamounts. Allison is 11 points away from tying her point total of 256 in her last full-season as a Catamount in 2020-21.
  • Allison is the first Catamount since Jewell Smalls (2018-19, 2019-20) to score 500 or more points in her first two seasons with Western Carolina.
  • Joi Reid is the first Catamount this season to have double figure rebounds in multiple games. She had 11 rebounds against Bluefield State, Samford and UNCG 11 and 10 rebounds against Wofford. 
  • Allison leads the team averaging 13.6 points per game and has scored in double figures 14 times this year. Her 13.6 points per game rank eighth in the SoCon. Her 15.6 points per game in conference contests is good for sixth place.
 
 AN INSIDE LOOK AT ETSU:
  • ETSU sophomore guard Kendall Folley is the reigning Southern Conference Player of the Week.
  • After opening conference play 0-3, ETSU has won their last two SoCon games defeating Furman and Wofford. 
  • The Bucs are 6-4 at home this season but are currently 0-3, at home, in conference play. 
  • ETSU has two players averaging in double figures. Jiselle Thomas leads the way averaging 14.9 points per game, and Nevaeh Brown is averaging 10.2.
  • The Buccaneers are averaging 61.4 points per game and giving up 54.6.
