Allison's 20 Points and Catamounts' Stifling Defense Earn Road Win at Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Graduate student Kyla Allison scored 20 points and Western Carolina women's basketball shot a scorching 59.5 percent from the field as the Catamounts knocked off Chattanooga 56-48 Saturday in McKenzie Arena.
 
Turning Point:
Western Carolina led from the opening tip to the final buzzer holding Chattanooga to single-digit scoring in the first quarter using stifling defense to force the Mocs to 35.3 percent from the field. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Allison scored 14 second-half points to post a game-leading 20 points. She also ripped down seven rebounds.
  • Mya Love came off the bench to score 11 points for the Catamounts. 
  • Yaz Wazeerud-Din was the only Moc who scored in double figures with 11.
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • The Catamounts opened the game by outscoring Chattanooga 15-6 in the first quarter and topping the Mocs 16-14 in the second to lead 31-20 at the half.
  • Chattanooga came roaring back to start the third quarter using a 14-4 run to pull within one of the Catamounts, 35-34, with 3:35 left. The Catamounts answered back with a 7-2 run to close out the quarter. 
  • The Mocs trimmed WCU's lead to four, 42-38, to open the fourth quarter but Chattanooga would never draw any closer the remainder of the game. 
  • A jumper by Allison allowed Western Carolina to build its largest lead of the game of 13, 54-41, with 4:21 remaining capping off a 9-3 run.
  • The Catamounts weathered a comeback attempt by the Mocs but it was too little too late for Chattanooga. 
  • Western Carolina shot a season-high 59.5 percent from the field. 
  • The Catamounts turned the ball over 30 times as Chattanooga turned that into 20 points. 
  • Western Carolina won the rebound battle ripping down 32 boards with 31 being on the defensive end. 
  • Each team hit five three-pointers and missed just one free throw.
 
News & Notes
  • Allison has scored 20 more points four times this season. 
  • Love has scored in double figures in the last three games.
  • The win at Chattanooga was the seventh victory for WCU on the Mocs home court. 
  • Head Coach Kiley Hill is the only head coach in program history to record two wins, in their tenure, at Chattanooga. 
  • The win at Chattanooga halted a four-game losing streak to the Mocs.
  • The Catamounts earn their first conference road win since Feb. 23, 2021, earning a 62-48 win at ETSU. 
  • The win at Chattanooga halted a three-game losing streak for the Catamounts.
  • Western Carolina held Chattanooga to its second-lowest scoring output of the season. The 48 points scored by the Mocs were just over the 39 points Chattanooga scored in the loss at Tennessee.
