Catamounts Travel to No. 22 Tennessee Wednesday

First meeting since 1976

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis continues its road swing traveling to No. 22 Wednesday for a doubleheader set to begin at noon at the Goodfriend Tennis Center. 
 
NEWS & NOTES
  • The Catamounts open the season 2-0 for the first time since the 2021 campaign after a 4-3 road win at Western Kentucky on Sunday. 
  • Western Carolina won its opening road match for the first time since 2015 when the Catamounts won at North Carolina A&T 7-0.
  • Isabella Sambola, Jade Groen, and Madison Schwarz all open the season 2-0 in singles play.  
  • This will be the third and fourth meeting between Western Carolina and Tennessee. The two programs have not met since 1976 with the Lady Vols seeping the previous two matches.
  • Tennessee is coming off a loss to No. 12 Ohio State 4-2 at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Columbus, Ohio.
  • Western Carolina's match at Tennessee is the Lady Vols home opener.
