Catamounts Travel to UNCG Saturday

Final road SoCon game of the season

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball will compete in its final Southern Conference road game of the season traveling to UNCG for a 4 p.m. tip-off Saturday at Fleming Gymnasium.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN 3 (paid subscription required).

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and UNCG meet for the 81st time on Saturday. The Spartans have won the last four meetings including the contest earlier this season in Cullowhee defeating the Catamounts 83-59. The Catamounts' last win in Greensboro came on Jan. 10, 2021, knocking off the Spartans 49-42. In the series, in Greensboro, the Spartans narrowly lead 15-13.
  • Junior Mya Love has scored in double figures in the last seven games and nine of the last 10. In the last seven games she is averaging 13.4 points per game. That is three points above her seasonal average of 10.6 points per contest. In conference only games she is averaging 13.1 points per game. 
  • For her career, Kyla Allison has scored 758 points, including her time at Middle Tennessee. 576 of the 758 have been scored at Western Carolina. She is currently averaging 12 points per game in her career with the Catamounts. Allison has bested her point total of 256 in her last full season as a Catamount in 2020-21 with 320 this season.
  • Allison is the first Catamount since Jewell Smalls (2018-19, 2019-20) to score 500 or more points in her first two seasons with Western Carolina.
  • Allison leads the team averaging 13.3 points per game and has scored in double figures 18 times this year. Her 13.3 points per game rank eighth in the SoCon. Her 13.9 points per game in conference contests is good for sixth place.
  • Joi Reid is averaging 8.4 rebounds in conference only games and is fourth in the SoCon.
AN INSIDE LOOK AT UNCG:
  • UNCG is on a two-game winning streak after knocking off Wofford (68-64) and Furman (74-69) on the road last weekend.
  • The Spartans and the Catamounts each have a victory over league-leading Wofford this season.
  • UNCG is 6-5 this season at home.
  • The contest on Saturday will be the Spartans Alumni Game as they invite back former student-athletes from the program's history.
  • Akira Wiggins paces UNCG averaging 11.4 points per game. Faith Price follows Wiggins with 10 points per game.
