Catamount Softball Heads to Presbyterian for Doubleheader

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball returns to the diamond after an 11-day break traveling to Clinton, S.C. to take on Presbyterian in a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. at the PC Softball Complex.

 Catamount Notes
  • Sophomore Tessa Juett was named Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week opening weekend. She tossed a shutout in eight innings giving up two hits, walked one and struck out eight.
  • Juett was the first of two Catamount pitchers to open the season with a shutout. Villanova transfer Taylor Norton went seven innings without allowing a run.
  • Fifth-year Bailey Huneycutt has 105 career RBI which ranks third in the Catamount record books. She is one RBI shy of tying former Catamount Taylor Sigmon for second place.
  • Junior Brooklynn Brewington already owns the stolen base record for a season and is now chasing the career record. She currently has 34 stolen bases and is eyeing Amelia Griffin's 50 stolen base record.
  • The Catamounts opened the season 2-0.
  • Western Carolina and Presbyterian meet for the 24th and 25th time on Wednesday. The Blue Hose hold a slight advantage 12-11 in the previous 23 meetings. The Catamounts split the doubleheader in Cullowhee in 2022 winning the opening game 6-2 before dropping game two 2-1. Western Carolina is 3-9 at Presbyterian all-time.
  • Former Catamount softball player Addie Pate is now an assistant coach at Presbyterian.
 
Presbyterian Notes
  • Presbyterian has opened the season 8-0 – the best start to a season in NCAA Division I history. All eight of the Blue Hose wins have been at home.
  • The Blue Hose have posted a shutout in five of its first eight games to open 2023.
  • Presbyterian pitcher Jenna Greene leads the pitching staff with a .50 ERA tossing 28 innings and striking out 41.
  • At the plate, Kendall Owen has a .556 batting average with 10 hits, six runs scored, three doubles, one home run and four RBI.
