Catamounts Open SoCon Play at Furman Wednesday

Bring three-match win streak into contest

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis takes a three-match win streak into Greenville, S.C. Wednesday opening Southern Conference play at Furman. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Mickel Tennis Center.
 
NEWS & NOTES
  • Western Carolina went 3-0 over the last week with home wins against Young Harris and Georgia State and a dramatic 4-3 win at Davidson Feb. 19.
  • Freshman Madison Schwarz went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles and 2-1 in singles play in the three-match span.
  • Fellow freshman Leilany Ipunesso clinched the match at Davidson, with the score tied 3-3, when she picked up a three set (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) victory at No. 4 singles.
  • The Catamounts are looking for their first-ever victory against Furman. The Paladins are 36-0 against the Catamounts all-time.
  • Furman is on a two-match winning streak with victories over Florida Atlantic and Yale last week.
  • The Paladins have already dipped into SoCon play defeating UNCG 7-0 on Feb. 5.
