Catamounts Host Chattanooga Thursday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball hosts Chattanooga at 7 p.m. Thursday on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:
  • Western Carolina and Chattanooga meet for the 96th time on Thursday. The Mocs lead the all-time series 82-13. The Catamounts halted a four-game losing streak to the Mocs Jan. 28 in McKenzie Arena defeating Chattanooga at home, 56-48. Western Carolina has won twice at Chattanooga over the last six meetings. Head Coach Kiley Hill becomes the first Western Carolina women's basketball Head Coach, in program history, to register two road wins against Chattanooga.
  • Graduate student Kyla Allison leads the Catamounts in scoring averaging 13.6 points per game. She has scored in double figures 19 times this season which includes a game-leading 19 points at UNCG Feb. 18. In conference only games she is averaging 14.3 points per contest.
  • For the second time this season Western Carolina shot 50 percent or better when the Catamounts shot 50 percent from the field in the loss at UNCG.
  • Western Carolina is looking to snap a five-game losing streak against Chattanooga an earn its first conference sweep of the season.
  • Allison is also the first WCU player to score 300 or more in a season since the 2019-20 season when Jewell Smalls had 379 and Lauren LaPlant scored 361., she currently has 339 and tied for the third-most points over the last four seasons.
 
AN INSIDE LOOK AT CHATTANOOGA:
  • The Mocs returned to the top of the league standings for the first time since 2020 and tied with Wofford and ETSU for the lead heading into the final week of the regular season. UTC leads SoCon in rebounding defense and are second in scoring defense (55.8), free throw percentage (.757), field goal percentage defense (.393) and defensive rebounds (25.8).
  • Yazz Wazeerud-Din leads the team in scoring with 15.7 points per game and has a team-best 61 3-pointers, three away from the Mocs' Top-10 for a season. 
  • Raven Thompson is second on the team in scoring with 14.6 points per game and third in rebounding, averaging 6.5 per game. She leads the SoCon in free throw shooting with 119 on the year, fourth most for the Mocs in a single-season and one away from the freshman record.
