ATLANTA, Ga. – Western Carolina softball dropped a pair of games in day one action Friday at the Panther Invitational hosted by Georgia State. The Catamounts fell to Northern Iowa 9-0 and Tennessee State 3-0 at Bob Heck Stadium.   
 
 Northern Iowa 9, Western Carolina 0
 
 Turning Point 
 Northern Iowa scored all nine of its runs in the final three innings and held Western Carolina to two hits. 
 
 How it Happened 
  • Northern Iowa broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the fifth followed by two runs in the sixth and four in the seventh.  
 
 Inside the Box Score 
  • Northern Iowa pitcher Kailyn Packard had a no-hitter going through 5.1 innings before Brooklynn Brewington broke it up with a one-out single past third base.
  • Samantha Reele also picked up a single in the contest.
  • Tessa Juett pitched a complete game and falls to 1-1 on the year. She gave up nine runs on 13 hits and struck out six. 
  • The Catamounts stranded four base runners.

 Turning Point 
 Three solo home runs were the difference in the game leading to the Tennessee State win.  
 
 How it Happened 
The Tigers hit a home run in the third and two in the seventh.
 
 Inside the Box Score 
  • Jayme Eilers got her second start of the season and falls to 0-2 on the year. She tossed a complete game giving up three runs on six hits, gave up three home runs, and struck out four.
  • The Catamounts had three hits in the game with Brewington going 2-for-3.
  News & Notes 
  • Samantha Reele had her hit streak snapped at four.
  • The Catamounts have now lost four straight after starting the season 2-0.
