Catamounts Travel to USC Upstate Wednesday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball travels to Spartanburg, S.C. for a mid-week doubleheader Wednesday at USC Upstate. The first game of the doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m.

Catamount Notes
  • The Catamounts are coming off a 1-4 weekend at the Panther Invitational hosted by Georgia State last weekend. The Catamounts picked up a 7-5 win over Tennessee State Saturday, Feb. 25.
  • Redshirt sophomore Morgan Maddaluna leads the squad with a .413 batting average racking up seven hits and has a three-game hit streak.
  • Senior Brooklynn Brewington is riding a six-game hit streak and has a .300 batting average. She is also tied with Bailey Huneycutt for the most hits on the team with nine.
  • Huneycutt is sitting at a .310 batting average. She moved into second base in the Catamount record books for RBI in a career with 111 and is chasing former Catamount Hunter Gibbons who holds the record with 129.
  • Pitcher Taylor Norton has two wins on the season to led the pitching staff.
  • Senior pitcher Jayme Eilers paces the team with 19 strikeouts.
 
USC Upstate Notes
  • USC Upstate is undefeated to start the season with a 13-0 record.
  • The Spartans have recorded four shutouts this season.
  • All 13 USC Upstate wins have been at home.
  • Peyton Darnell leads the Spartans with a .500 batting average. She has 12 hits and seven RBI.
  • The pitching staff is paced by Alyssa Kelly who has a .62 ERA, an 8-0 record and 36 strikeouts.
