CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina softball team remains on the road this Wednesday as the Catamounts travel to Georgia State for a doubleheader scheduled for Noon and 2 p.m.

Having played its first 17 games away from Cullowhee – and with four more scheduled before the home debut on March 25 – WCU is 7-10 overall after going 4-2 on a California road trip that saw two games get canceled due to rain. Among the victories for the Catamounts include a 1-0 triumph over UC San Diego, a 5-2 win over UC Riverside as part of a doubleheader split, and two wins over Yale as part of the San Diego Classic.
Senior outfielder
Brooklynn Brewington was honored on Monday as the Southern Conference Player of the Week after she hit .455 in six games last week. She led WCU with 10 hits, three RBI, three runs scored, and a stolen base in six games. Brewington extended her hitting streak to 13 games before it was snapped in WCU's 8-1 setback to San Diego on Sunday. The Andrews, S.C., product leads the team and ranks second in the SoCon with a .390 batting average. She also leads WCU with 23 hits, 12 runs scored, and five stolen bases.
Georgia State is 8-13 after a 7-2 setback against Georgia on March 8. Bailee Richardson leads the Panther with a .368 batting average and is tied with Emily Brown for the team lead in hits at 21. In the circle, the Panthers have three pitchers with 12 appearances each with Emily Hodnett having thrown a team-best 41.0 innings.
Wednesday's doubleheader marks the 20
th and 21
st all-time meetings between the schools. The teams played earlier this season during the Panther Invitational, a 5-4 Georgia State victory on Feb. 25.
WCU is off this weekend before traveling to Gardner-Webb on March 21 for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
