CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina women's tennis team returns to action on Sunday (March 19) at 11 a.m. as the Catamounts head to Macon, Ga., to face the Mercer Bears at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
WCU (11-5, 0-1 SoCon) has been idle since completing a Spring Break trip in Orlando, Fla., on March 10 where the Catamounts posted a 3-1 record with victories over Seton Hall, UNCW, and Loyola. Entering this weekend, the doubles pairing of
Jade Groen and
Andrea Redondo is a league-best 10-2. Groen sports a team and league-best 11 singles wins with an 11-2 record.
Mercer is 6-6 overall as the Bears open SoCon play on Saturday morning against Chattanooga (11-2, 0-0). In 2022, Mercer finished in eighth place in the league with an 0-7 mark and a 6-17 overall record.
The Catamounts return home next Friday, facing UNCG at 2 p.m. at the Catamount Athletic Complex in WCU's first-ever tennis match to be broadcast on ESPN+ (
paid subscription required).
