CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina women's tennis team returns to the Catamount Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon as the Catamounts battle in-state rival UNCG at 2 p.m.
The match is scheduled to be
streamed on ESPN+ (
paid subscription required) representing the first time in Catamount women's tennis program history that a home match will be streamed. Live stats will also be available via a
link on CatamountSports.com.
WCU is 11-6 overall and 0-2 in Southern Conference play after a 4-3 defeat at Mercer last Sunday. The Catamounts claimed the doubles point and scored wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Jade Groen has a team-high 11 singles victories and is joined with double-figure singles wins by
Angela Perez with 10. Groen and
Andrea Redondo lead the league in doubles play with an 11-2 seasonal record.
UNCG is 4-12 overall following a 4-3 home victory against East Carolina on Sunday. The Spartans are 0-3 in SoCon play with setbacks coming on the road at Furman and ETSU and at home to ETSU. Raegan Mitchell leads the Spartans with seven singles wins while Olivia Gallagher has a team-best eight doubles victories.
The Catamounts head to Wofford on April 7 for their final road match of the 2023 season scheduled for 1 p.m. WCU concludes the regular season with three straight home league matches.
