Catamounts Add Transfer Forward Corneilous Williams

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Corneilous Williams, who spent the 2022-23 season on the roster at LSU, has been added to the Western Carolina men's basketball roster head coach Justin Gray announced today. Originally from Meridian, Miss., Williams, a 6-9, 210-lbs. forward, played at Moravian Prep in Hudson, N.C., and at the Combine Academy in Lincolnton, N.C.

Williams, who was recruited to LSU and was the first high school signee by head coach Matt McMahon, took a redshirt in the 2022-23 season and has four years of eligibility remaining.

"Corneilous' athleticism and energy in which he plays with will speak for itself," said Gray on his post signee. "I was really impressed with how hungry he is to just get better and go prove himself. I love guys that play with an edge and he does that. Anytime you can add a young man that has four years to grow in your program with his abilities, you jump all over it. Not to mention, he represents our fundamental ABC's. He's a great get for Catamount Nation."

Before signing at LSU, Williams played the 2021-22 season for Combine Academy, one of the top post-graduate prep schools in the country where he averaged 13.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He was tabbed as the MVP of both the DME Beach and Ball Classic and was also a first-team All-Tournament team selection at the Big Shots Prep Nationals event. At the NTL Prep Showcase, he averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and a blocked shot in two games.

"Western Carolina is getting a winner and a great kid," said Steve Jecewiz, head coach at Combine Academy. "Corneilous is a difference-maker on the defensive end with his rim protection and rebounding ability, and he is an efficient interior scorer offensively with his touch, toughness, and athleticism. I can't wait to follow his success at Western Carolina."

Williams played for the Mississippi Express AAU team out of Meridian, Miss. He joins a veteran returning lineup for the Catamounts that features seven returning letterwinners and four starters from a squad that made WCU's fourth postseason appearance all-time, playing in the Discount Tire College Basketball Invitational (CBI) in Daytona Beach, Fla.
