CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina softball team welcomes former Southern Conference archrival Appalachian State to the Catamount Softball Complex on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. single-game showdown.
 
Tuesday's game will be broadcast regionally over the air on The CW 62 (Asheville/Greenville/Spartanburg) and simulcast on ESPN+ (paid subscription required). Additional coverage through live stats is available online through a link at CatamountSports.com.
 
Idle since a 4-3 setback in the series rubber match at Chattanooga on April 7, WCU brings a 13-19 overall record into Tuesday's game. Brooklynn Brewington and Bailey Huneycutt rank fourth and fifth in the SoCon in terms of batting average, hitting .368 and .360 respectively. Huneycutt leads the squad with 26 RBI. Myra Twitty has a team-best seven home runs.
 
Appalachian State is 20-21 overall and 1-12 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Mountaineers swept a nonconference doubleheader against ETSU before dropping three games against South Alabama, entering the week amidst a three-game slide. Kayt Houston leads the team with a .370 batting average and has a team-high 33 runs scored and 50 hits. Taylor Thorp leads the team with 22 RBI.
 
The Catamounts and Mountaineers played three times in 2022 with the Mountaineers claiming a 3-0 decision in Charleston S.C. on Feb. 25. The teams split a doubleheader in Boone with the Mountaineers taking the first game 9-2 and the Catamounts earning 5-2 extra-inning victory in the nightcap to snap a five-game series slide.
 
WCU resumes SoCon play this weekend, heading to Mercer for a three-game series against the Bears. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. followed by the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.
