CHATTANOOGA, TENN. –
Myra Twitty hit her team-leading seventh home run of the season and
Jayme Eilers allowed just one run for the second straight start as Western Carolina earned a 2-1 win in the nightcap to split a Southern Conference doubleheader at Chattanooga on Thursday. The Mocs took the first game 6-2.
WCU is 13-18 overall and 3-5 in SoCon games while Chattanooga is 18-17 and 1-4. The teams are scheduled to wrap up the series at Noon on Friday. Any schedule updates will be posted on social media and on CatamountSports.com.
Game 1: Chattanooga 6, Western Carolina 2
The Mocs scored three runs in the first inning and added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth to take the opening game win.
Brooklynn Brewington led off the game with a single and advanced to second on an error before stealing third and scoring on a Mya Twitty single.
Chattanooga plated three runs in the bottom of the frame on a three-run home run by Kaili Phillips to grab the advantage.
Reigning SoCon Player of the Week
Bailey Huneycutt hit her fifth home run of the season, a solo blast in the third inning, to bring the Catamounts within a run. However, Chattanooga answered in the bottom of the inning with a Phillips double to make the score 4-2
The Mocs plated two runs in the fifth with a sacrifice fly and another Phillips double to provide the final tally.
Samantha Reele finished 2-for-3 with a single and double. Huneycutt was 1-for-3 with a home run while Brewington, Twitty, and
Savannah Baldwin each reached with a single.
Phillips finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, and five RBI to lead the Mocs.
Brooke Parrot (3-4) picked up the win with Peja Goold earning her first save of the year.
Tessa Juett was charged with the loss.
Game 2: Western Carolina 2, Chattanooga 1
Jayme Eilers threw a complete game and allowed one run for the second straight contest in the circle to help lead WCU to the game two victory.
Myra Twitty broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning with a solo home run.
The Mocs loaded the bases with one out in the first inning and scored a run on a groundout for an early 1-0 advantage.
WCU capitalized on some shoddy defense by the Mocs in the third inning.
Bailey Treadway reached on an error to begin the frame and advanced to third base on a fielder's choice. Treadway tied the game, coming to the plate on a second Chattanooga error.
Twitty led off the sixth inning with her seventh home run of the year, sending the sixth pitch of the at-bat over the left field fence. The graduate student from Morganton, N.C., led the Catamounts at the plate in the contest, going 2-for-3 with a single, home run, and RBI. Treadway,

Jeralynn Wells each hit a single.
Eilers was masterful in the circle, limiting the Mocs to a run on just four hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 7.0 innings as she improved to 4-5. Of Chattanooga's four hits, only one went for extra-bases.
Taylor Long dropped to 4-5 as she suffered the loss. Long allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
