DURHAM, N.C. – Western Carolina fifth-year senior
Kate Mattison set a school record in the women's 5,000-meter run at the Duke Invitational held at a rainy Morris Williams Stadium on Friday.
Mattison bested her previous school record mark of 17:00.51 set at this meet last year with a time of 16:53.24. She earned a 19
th-place finish in a stacked field in the event.
Caroline Hilliard completed the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:29.72. Hilliard's time is the fourth-fastest in program history in the event.
Inclement weather forced the cancelation of the men's long jump and men's javelin. WCU had five student-athletes entered in the men's long jump:
Javell Brown,
Javon Brown,
Joshuah Glyn-Williams,
Tyler Rodriguez, and
Noah Straley.
The meet is scheduled to conclude on Saturday with events beginning at 10 a.m. with the women's high jump. Track events start an hour later with the women's 4x100-meter relay.
